Chinese fortune knots to spread caring message
(September V December 2005)
Nearly 70 volunteers participated in an activity organized by Social Welfare
Department to make over 3,000 Chinese fortune knots that represent
auspiciousness. The knots were then distributed to the needy on NWS Caring Day
to spread caring message. |
| Hiking for Rehabilitation (30 October 2005)
The New Horizon Club of Hong Kong, a self-help organization for cancer patients,
organized a hiking competition at Pineapple Dam of Shing Mun Reservoir, with an
aim to encourage the habit of exercising among discharged cancer patients. For
the second year NWS Volunteer Alliance members provided assistance to this
meaningful competition in work such as participant registration. |
Flag Days of Agency for Volunteer Service and Against Child Abuse
(July 2005)
NWS Volunteer Alliance continued to support charity actions. On 2 July, a total
of 18 volunteers participated in the Flag Day of Agency For Volunteer Service;
while four volunteers sold flags for Against Child Abuse on 23 July. |
| Orientation for new volunteers (9 April 2005)
Volunteers who have joined NWS Volunteer Alliance over the past year were
invited to join the orientation session to familiarize themselves with the team
and volunteer service. They also learnt much from the social workers from Hans
Anderson Club and Hong Kong YWCA Ming Yue District Elderly Community Centre who
introduced children and elderly service skills respectively. |
| Charity sale for tsunami victims (9 January 2005)
Apart from encouraging staff donations, NWS Holdings set up a charity sale
counter at its annual Sports Fun Day. Proceeds raised were donated to UNICEF
for tsunami victims in South Asia. |
